Unlike many of its competitors, who machine their cams from cast steel, CATCAMS cuts its camshafts directly from billet, which makes them much more resistant. Most of the time, CATCAMS camshafts are hollow in order to reduce their mass.

Two parameters are important when choosing a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle (opening duration). An increase in opening times allows an increase in power/torque, and an increase in lift optimises power at high rpm.
