The head gasket is one of the most important parts of the engine, and also one of the most fragile. It sits between the cylinder head and the cylinder block, and its job is to keep the engine working properly. A good head gasket must seal the combustion chambers completely and maintain the continuity and the sealing of the water and oil circuits. This part therefore has to withstand heavy thermal, mechanical and chemical loads, and it must be in good condition if engine failure is to be avoided. On an engine built for motorsport, the head gasket takes far greater loads, which is why a reinforced head gasket is the right choice. ATHENA head gaskets are made up of 3 to 5 stainless steel layers. On top of that, the gasket is built with folded layer technology, which lets it take higher compression ratios or a move to forced induction. A special coating is applied to the surface to increase its sealing ability. These products go through a long series of quality tests to guarantee gaskets that are sound, reliable and efficient.
