Unlike many of its competitors, which machine their cams from cast steel, CATCAMS cuts its camshafts directly from billet, which makes them far more durable. Most of the time, CATCAMS camshafts are hollow in order to reduce their weight.

Two parameters matter when choosing a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle (opening duration). An increase in the opening times allows an increase in power and torque, while an increase in lift optimises power at high engine speeds.
