The Honda K24Z7 engine covered
The K24Z7 is Honda's 2.4 litre four-cylinder with twin overhead camshafts, 16 valves and VTEC variable timing. It powers the Honda Civic IX 2.4 and the Acura ILX 2.4.
The kit replaces the original spring along with its upper and lower seats, and adds new collets.
SUPERTECH reinforced valve spring kit
Once the cam has done its work, only the spring puts the valve back on its seat. As revs climb, a valve that has been thrown takes longer to come back down; with too little load it hops, seats late and can hit the piston, hence valve float.
The three kits give 298 N, 356 N and 383 N on the seat, at the heights shown in the tables.

Valve spring kit fitting details
| Part | Honda original | Reinforced spring kit |
|---|---|---|
| Spring | Kit specific: SPR-H1000D, SPR-H1005D or SPR-H100DR | |
| Retainer | Kit specific: RET-K24Z7/T1 titanium | |
| Spring seat | Kit specific: SEAT-H1020DS (plus SS-3011-3 shim for the SPRK-H100DR-Z7) | |
| Collets | KPR-5.5-7A-ST-32 |
Each kit pairs its SPR-H1000D, SPR-H1005D or SPR-H100DR double springs with RET-K24Z7/T1 titanium upper retainers, SEAT-H1020DS lower spring seats (with an SS-3011-3 shim for the SPRK-H100DR-Z7) and KPR-5.5/7A-ST collets.
Installed height is the gap, with the valve shut, between bottom seat and top retainer. Quoted loads apply only at the stated height: 36.4 mm for the first two kits, 33.4 mm for the SPRK-H100DR-Z7. If the distance grows, after skimming the head for example, each extra millimetre removes as many newtons as the rate indicates. The table below collects these values.

| Installed height | 36.4 mm (SPRK-H1000D-Z7, SPRK-H1005D-Z7) 33.4 mm (SPRK-H100DR-Z7) |
| Seat pressure at this height | 298 N (SPRK-H1000D-Z7) 356 N (SPRK-H1005D-Z7) 383 N (SPRK-H100DR-Z7) |
Technical guide
Our brands
| SUPERTECH designs and manufactures racing valvetrain components in California, with more than three decades behind it. Every batch of springs is X-rayed, ultrasonically tested and laser-inspected before leaving the plant. Valves, guides and retainers complete the range. |
How to choose
A high seat load presses the valve onto the cam well past the speed the stock spring can follow: raised limiter, livelier cam, turbo added. Here you get 298 N, 356 N and 383 N on the seat, then 934 N, 979 N and 1041 N at 12.5 mm lift depending on the kit. Look for balance: an over-firm spring tires cams and tappets. These kits suit built engines rather than relaxed road use.
| Criterion | Key point |
|---|---|
| Choosing the pressure | Each version's lbs number is the seat load in pounds: 67, 80 or 86, i.e. 298, 356 or 383 N. Set it against your cam lift, to be kept under 15.7 mm with the first two kits and under 14.9 mm with the last, your target revs and any boost. Going harder than needed brings nothing and speeds up valvetrain wear. Full detail is in the characteristics table. |
| Kit contents | The three kits include the same surroundings for the double spring: RET-K24Z7/T1 titanium top retainers, SEAT-H1020DS bottom seats and KPR-5.5/7A-ST collets, plus an SS-3011-3 shim for the SPRK-H100DR-Z7. Only the springs change: SPR-H1000D, SPR-H1005D or SPR-H100DR. |
When reinforced springs become necessary
- Cam with more lift than the stock one
- Rev limiter to be raised markedly
- K24 boosted by a turbo or supercharger
- Car used on track or in hillclimbs
- Tired springs: valves floating before the limiter
