The Hyundai and Kia 2.0 turbo Theta II engine
The 2.0 litre turbocharged, direct-injection, 16-valve Theta II carries the code G4KF in the Genesis Coupe, then G4KH in the Hyundai N models and in the T-GDi saloons and SUVs of both brands.
The kit replaces the standard spring, its upper retainer and its lower spring seat; the original seal seat is reused. Each box holds sixteen pieces of every kind, one set per valve.
SUPERTECH reinforced valve spring kit
The cam lifts the valve then lets go; the spring must seat it again at once. At high revs the valve has too much momentum to obey when load is short: it returns late, bounces and may reach toward the piston, a behaviour known as valve float.
Every valve receives a concentric pair of springs that split the load and calm vibration.

The SPRK-HY1012-D combines 16 double SPR-TS1012 springs, 16 RET-TS1015/T1EX upper retainers and 16 SEAT-M1015-1 lower spring seats; the SPRK-HY1015-2 uses SPR-TS1015, RET-TS5.5/T1EX and SEAT-M1015-1; the SPRK-HY1015-3 pairs SPR-TS1015, RET-TS5.5/T1EX and SEAT-M1015-2.
On the head, record the distance from lower spring seat to upper retainer with the valve sitting on its seat: that is the installed height. The seat load quoted applies to that exact figure. If it grows, notably after the head has been skimmed, each extra millimetre removes load equal to the spring rate. Record it valve by valve before fitting.

Technical guide
Our brands
| SUPERTECH is Californian and has made racing valve train components for three decades. Springs are verified batch by batch through radiography, ultrasonic testing and laser measurement. The range also takes in valves, guides and retainers, suited to road use and to the track alike. |
How to choose
Extra seat load is what keeps a valve following the cam once the engine climbs beyond the original spring's limit: raised rev limiter, hotter cam, more boost. The three kits deliver 334 N or 378 N on the seat, according to the installed height shown in the table. Aim at what is truly needed, because over-stiff springs age cams and tappets early. The inner and outer springs split the effort and go easy on the valvetrain.
| Criterion | Key point |
|---|---|
| Choosing the pressure | Each name carries a lbs number, meaning the seat load in pounds: 75 lbs equals 334 N, 85 lbs equals 378 N. The deciding factors are lift at the cam, the engine speed wanted and boost pressure. Pick the kit whose installed height suits your head and measure the new spring before assembly. Beyond what is needed there is no gain, only a tired valvetrain. |
| Kit contents | Each kit holds sixteen double springs, sixteen upper retainers and sixteen lower spring seats. The SPRK-HY1015-2 and SPRK-HY1015-3 share the SPR-TS1015 spring and the RET-TS5.5/T1EX retainer; the SPRK-HY1012-D pairs the SPR-TS1012 spring with the RET-TS1015/T1EX. |
When reinforced springs become necessary
- Stock camshaft replaced by a sharper profile
- Rev limit raised during tuning
- Larger turbo or increased boost
- Head rebuilt for circuit or competition
- Tired springs: valves lose control ahead of the limiter
