Applicable Honda engines
This set fits the inlet side of Honda's D-series 16-valve four-cylinders, from 1.5 to 1.7 litres: D15B, D16A6, D16Y6, D16Y7, D16Y8, D16Z6, D17A1, D17A2, D17A5, D17A6, D17A7, D17A8 and D17A9.
Each head has 8 inlet valves, so 8 guides. For these engines Honda lists only the repair size 12204-PJ7-305, with an outside diameter of 11.06 mm, a length of 47.5 mm and a 5.5 mm valve stem.
SUPERTECH inlet valve guides
Each inlet valve stem moves inside a bronze guide set into the aluminium head. The guide lines the valve up with its seat, draws some of the stem's heat away into the head and retains the stem seal. If clearance grows, the valve leans, seats badly and lets oil through: oil consumption, blue smoke and weaker compression.
SUPERTECH makes these guides from manganese bronze, a material the brand credits with carrying heat away much more effectively than the sintered guides an engine leaves the factory with. A set holds 8 guides with a 5.5 mm bore, enough for the whole inlet side of one head, and normally goes with uprated valves.

Manganese bronze
The base of this bronze is copper, with manganese, aluminium and iron added and a trace of zinc. Hardness plus resistance to wear and corrosion reserve it for heavily stressed bushings, the job of a valve guide, where the stem slides on every engine cycle.
