Mazda and Ford engines concerned
This kit fills the 16-valve cylinder head of the Mazda FS, a naturally aspirated 2.0 litre, twin-cam, four-cylinder unit, used in the Mazda 626 GE and GF, the MX-6, the MPV II and the 323 BJ, as well as the Ford Probe II, Telstar and Laser.
At SUPERTECH a single part number serves both the inlet and the exhaust side of this engine: 6 mm stem, 11.065 mm outside diameter, 38 mm length. To fill the 16 bores of the cylinder head, the kit brings together two sets of 8 guides.
SUPERTECH manganese bronze valve guides
Held tight in the aluminium, the guide keeps the valve in line with its seat, drains into the head some of the heat soaked up by the stem and gives the stem seal something to sit on. Worn oval, it lets the stem wobble, the valve closes askew and oil creeps towards the chamber: blue smoke, falling oil level and dropping compression.
SUPERTECH turns these guides from manganese bronze which, according to the brand, sheds heat far more effectively than sintered factory guides. They are most often installed alongside reinforced valves. Two sets of 8 are enough here to equip the whole cylinder head.

Our brand
| From its California base in San Jose, SUPERTECH has drawn up racing valves, springs, guides and retainers for around thirty years. Each part is sized through computer simulation, inspected with ultrasonic, radiographic and laser tools, then put to the test in competition. |
Manganese bronze
This alloy combines copper and zinc with small shares of manganese, iron and aluminium. It thereby gains hardness, stands up to friction for a long time and resists corrosion, which is why it is chosen for heavily loaded bushes and guiding parts.
When valve guides must be replaced
- Oil consumed past the valve stems
- Reinforced valves for a cylinder head with high mileage
- Cylinder head rebuilt for racing, drifting or rallying
- General overhaul of the valve train

Remember the valve stem seals
New guides call for new valve stem seals. For this guide, SUPERTECH pairs its VS-T6SM seal, designed for a 6 mm stem.
