Unlike many of its competitors who machine the cams from cast steel, CATCAMS machines its camshafts directly from billet, which makes them much more resistant. Most of the time, CATCAMS camshafts are hollow in order to reduce their mass.

Two parameters are important for choosing a camshaft profile: valve lift and angle (opening duration). An increase in opening times allows an increase in power/torque and an increase in lift optimises power at high rpm.
