This kit is made for the 3.0 litre J30 and J32 V6 engines, with one overhead camshaft per bank and 24 valves with VTEC valve timing, fitted to the Honda Accord, Inspire, Avancier, Elysion and Shuttle as well as the Acura CL.

Newer or larger V6 engines such as the J35 and J37 are not covered on this page: they do not appear in the kit's applications.

SUPERTECH reinforced valve spring kit

As soon as the cam moves away, the valve has to return to its seat without delay. At high rpm a spring with no reserve lets it lift off, bounce and sometimes reach the piston; a raised load removes that float.

At an installed height of 49.9 mm the kit quotes 316 N at the seat; its single spring measures 23.7 mm outside diameter.

The SUPERTECH kit includes the spring, the titanium upper retainer and the lower spring seat made for the J30 V6. The original collets stay in place.

Measured with the valve shut, installed height is the span between the bottom seat carrying the last coil and the top retainer capping the spring; this kit's figure is 49.9 mm. A stiffer spring sheds more load as that figure creeps up by tenths of a millimetre. Check the kit reference in the table alongside before ordering.

How to choose

A high load pins the valve against the cam profile right to the last turn of the rev counter, so the red line can be moved back, a sharper camshaft fitted or a supercharger added. This single-spring kit suits road and sport builds; before buying, compare your camshaft lift with the travel the spring accepts, then have the installed height checked on the cylinder head. A firmer spring loads the valvetrain more heavily, so aim for the load that matches how the engine is really used rather than the highest figure possible; neighbouring parts will last far longer.
